Zoie and Gage got married at Western Sky in Bulverde, just outside San Antonio on the edge of the Hill Country. This place is a 70-acre working ranch with a river, a gazebo, and a big, bright ballroom, so the whole day had that rustic-but-polished feel. Zoie and Gage were so easy to work with, and their families kept checking in on us all night to make sure we had everything we needed. That kind of thoughtfulness sets the tone for the whole wedding.
Ceremony
They said their vows outside at the gazebo, right under a row of old oaks. The weather could not have been better while it lasted.
Before the ceremony, Zoie had a first look with her dad and then with Gage’s dad too. Both moments were quiet and full of emotion, and honestly, some of my favorite frames from the whole day came from those two walks.
Right after the kiss was made, the sky changed fast. A cold front rolled in, and the rain started almost on cue. We could not have timed it better if we tried. Moments like that remind me why I love shooting weddings; you never know what the Hill Country weather will do.
Reception
The rain kept falling all night, but nobody seemed to mind. The dance floor stayed packed, and the energy never dipped.
Zoie threw on a little poncho during dinner to keep her dress clean. She is so funny! Her bouquet was made of Sola wood flowers, and they held up perfectly through the damp night. Wood blooms do not wilt, so that was one less thing to worry about.
The best part of the night came during cake cutting. Their cake was covered in Star Wars ships and stormtroopers, and out of nowhere Zoie surprised Gage with a lightsaber duel. It was silly, sweet, and totally them. Days like this are why I love what I do.
